Music TheoryChromatic & Whole Tone Scales
Chromatic & Whole Tone Scales
Goal
Explore scales that don't fit the standard "Major/Minor" pattern.
The Chromatic Scale
The Chromatic scale uses every single key on the piano. No gaps!
The "Spider" Walk
Play every white and black key from C to the next C.
Formula: **H - H - H - H - H...**
Use Finger 3 on black keys and Finger 1 on white keys (except when two white keys are together, use 1-2).
The Whole Tone Scale
This scale only uses Whole Steps. It has no "center" and sounds like a dream or a cartoon "blur" effect.
The Dreamy Scale
Start on C.
Move by Whole Steps only: **C - D - E - F# - G# - A# - C**.
Notice how it never sounds like it "arrives" at home.
Quick Recap
Chromatic = Every note.
Whole Tone = Only whole steps (Sounds blurry/dreamy).
