Playing Your First Song

Goal

Use the C Major scale to play "Mary Had a Little Lamb" and understand melody skips.

Steps vs. Skips

Melodies move in two ways: 1. Steps: Moving to the very next note (C to D). 2. Skips: Jumping over a note (C to E).

Your First Song: Mary Had a Little Lamb

Place your Right Hand on C-D-E-F-G (Finger 1 on C).

Play this sequence: **E - D - C - D - E - E - E** (3-2-1-2-3-3-3).

Continue: **D - D - D** (2-2-2) then **E - G - G** (3-5-5).

Repeat the first line: **E - D - C - D - E - E - E**.

Finish: **E - D - D - E - D - C** (3-2-2-3-2-1).
